Note: "Outlook" is part of a package called "Office XP" or "Office 2002" by various places around the web. It is the same package. It is not the same as "Outlook Express."

These instructions are for Microsoft Outlook XP/2000 specifically, however, you may use them as a guideline with other versions of Outlook, including the "Outlook Express" version. It is likely to be somewhat similar in option naming.

Before you begin: In order to support SSL encrypted email transactions with our server, you will have to install our Certificate Authority (CA) certificate on your computer. Open "Internet Explorer" and follow the instructions found on this page. (new window)

1. Open Microsoft Outlook.

2. If the "Outlook 2002 Startup" wizard appears, as shown in the screen below, click "Cancel" and continue to step 3.

If it doesn't appear, continue at step 4.

3. The "Outlook 2002 Startup" wizard will ask if you're sure you want to quit the wizard. Click "Yes."

4. Click on the "Tools" menu and select "E-Mail Accounts..." (You may have to click on the two downward pointing arrows at the bottom of the menu to reveal this option.)

5. On the "E-mail Accounts" window, shown below, ensure that the "Add a new e-mail account" radio button is selected and click on "Next >".

6. Select the radio box corresponding to the "POP3" server option and click on "Next >".

7. The page above provides various fields to fill out:

Ensure that "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" is not checked. This option is unsupported and unnecessary due to the encryption you'll be utilizing.

Click on the "More Settings..." button.

8. On the "General" tab of the "Internet E-mail Settings" window are two optional items:

9. Click on the "Outgoing Server" tab.

Ensure that "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" is checked.

Ensure that the "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" radio box is selected.

10. Click on the "Advanced" tab.

Under "Server Port Numbers", ensure that both check boxes labelled "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)" are checked.

Ensure (or change) the "Incoming server (POP3)" port is "995".

Ensure (or change) the "Outgoing server (SMTP)" port is "465".

Click the "OK" button.

11. You will return to the page that was originally discussed in step 7. Click on the "Test account Settings..." button.

Another window, as shown below, will begin the testing procedure.

Outlook will continue to check the settings for up to three minutes. If all is well, the window will then appear as seen below.

If you get any error messages that are similar to the message, "Task - Sending ' reported error (0x8004210B): The operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP)", you will need to install Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 3. This is a known issue with earlier versions of Microsoft Office XP/2002.

If you get any other messages, ensure that all the information entered in steps 5 through 10 is correct. If it is and still does not work, please contact your support representative.

Click the "Close" button on the "Test Account Settings" window.

Click the "Next >" button on the "E-mail Accounts" window.

12. Click on the "Finish" button and your email account is setup.

From this point, you can force Outlook to download your mail immediately by clicking on the "Tools" menu, selecting the "Send/Receive" submenu and selecting the "Send and Receive All" option.

You can also simply press the F9 button on your keyboard.
